Detecting Unsatisfiable CSPs by Coloring the Micro-Structure

چکیده
Constraint satisfaction research has focussed on consistency checking using k-consistency and its variations such as arc-consistency, and path-consistency. We define a new form of consistency checking that is based on coloring the micro-structure graph of a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP). In our formulation, if the micro-structure graph of a CSP with n variables can be colored with n − 1 colors then the problem is unsatisfiable. This new notion of consistencyby-coloring is compared to arc-consistency. We provide examples that show that neither arc-consistency nor consistency-by-coloring is more powerful than the other in a theoretical sense. We also describe the results of preliminary computational experiments that compare consistency-by-coloring and arc-consistency.

Consequences of Hardness of Refuting Random CSPs
A constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) is a decision problem for which the instances are sets of constraints, and the answer is ”yes” (the CSP is satisfiable) if there exists an object satisfying all the constraints, and ”no” (the CSP is unsatisfiable) if no such object exists. Examples of CSPs include 3-SAT, graph coloring, and linear programming. A random instance of a CSP is one created by ...
متن کاملA Novel Approach for Detecting Relationships in Social Networks Using Cellular Automata Based Graph Coloring
All the social networks can be modeled as a graph, where each roles as vertex and each relationroles as an edge. The graph can be show as G = [V;E], where V is the set of vertices and E is theset of edges. All social networks can be segmented to K groups, where there are members in eachgroup with same features. In each group each person knows other individuals and is in touch ...
متن کاملOn Finding Minimally Unsatisfiable Cores of CSPS
When a Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) admits no solution, it can be useful to pinpoint which constraints are actually contradicting one another and make the problem infeasible. In this paper, a recent heuristic-based approach to compute infeasible minimal subparts of discrete CSPs, also called Minimally Unsatisfiable Cores (MUCs), is improved. The approach is based on the heuristic explo...
متن کاملOn the Relationship Between Strong Backdoors and Instance Difficulty in Unsatisfiable Structured CSPs
The concept of backdoor was introduced by the SAT community to explain the computational performance of SAT solvers on large instances. There have been a number of investigations of backdoors for SAT since, but very little on the CSP side. This paper aims to correct this. In order to solve constraint satisfaction problems, a successful branching heuristic in constraint programming must be able ...
متن کاملPromise Constraint Satisfaction: Algebraic Structure and a Symmetric Boolean Dichotomy
A classic result due to Schaefer (1978) classifies all constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) over the Boolean domain as being either in P or NP-hard. This paper considers a promise-problem variant of CSPs called PCSPs. A PCSP over a finite set of pairs of constraints Γ consists of a pair (ΨP ,ΨQ ) of CSPs with the same set of variables such that for every (P ,Q ) ∈ Γ, P (xi1 , . . . ,xik ) is...
